Sinag Maynila 2020 Top 10 Short Films Revealed

After a daunting selection process that involved paring down a shortlist of 18, Sinag Maynila has chosen the 10 entries that will screen and compete under this year’s Short Film Category. They are:

DASAL
Angela Andres
A woman, believing she is cursed, accidentally kills her household help during an altercation. Soon, she discovers what she’s actually being cursed with.

ANG KAIBIGAN NI IMAGINARY F. (THE FRIEND OF IMAGINARY F.)
Joey Paras
A troubled man and his three special friends struggle to traverse the thin line between absurdity and realism in a world of loneliness and depression.

LEAVE NOTES
Yssa Valdes
A struggling musician goes through a girl’s haunting suicide notes.

NILALANG (OF BEINGS AND DECEIT)
Juan Carlo Tarobal
A young lady screams in silence as she seeks salvation from people around her.

PABASA KAN PASYON
Hubert Tibi
Religion and economy take center stage in a Bicolano’s family in a story set during the Lenten season. To make ends meet, one of them turns to religion and pushes his mother to make a living off her faith.

SILANG MGA NAKATAGO SA DILIM (THEY WHO LURK IN DARKNESS)
Diana Manguiat and Angelica Nitura.
A tyrannical patriarch lives in seclusion with his family, united by fear and ignorance. When his son, Toto, soon lives up to what he’s accustomed to, he realizes their hapless state.

SUPOT (UNCIRCUMCIZED)
Phil Giordano
After foregoing a ritual that is culturally intended to usher him into manhood, 10-year-old Rene-boy seeks alternate ways to remove his mark of cowardice.

TAHANAN (HOME)
Mick Quito
A man, freed from prison, finally reunites with his family but realizes that things are no longer the same.

TARANG (LIFE’S PEDAL)
Arvin Belarmino and Patsy Ferrer
A pedicab driver and his wife, who works as a prostitute, struggle to make ends meet when an unexpected incident soon tests their faith and forever alters their destiny.

TOGETHER
Blasgil Tanquilut
A young couple who survived an apocalyptic event take shelter in an isolated house in the mountains.

This roster of films features a powerhouse ensemble that includes respected mainstays in the independent film circuit, identities of whom will be revealed at the start of the festival. The films will be grouped into two sets and will screen in select cinemas from March 17 to 24.
