Les derniers Parisiens, known more by its English title Paris Prestige, will have a one-night-only Philippine screening on March 7, 2018 in SM North EDSA, as the opening film of this year’s Sinag Maynila festivities. The special screening will be part of the four-year-old film-fest’s launching gala, which will be preceded by an opening ceremony to be held in SM North’s IMAX Lobby.
The 2016 drama tells the story of ex-convict Nas (Reda Kateb) who returns to his hometown of Pigalle and reunites with his older brother Arezki (Slimane Dazi). Nas is determined to make a name for their family-owned bar, Le Prestige, but Arezki has other ideas.
Written and directed by French rappers Hamé and Ekoué, the film premiered at the 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival and was subsequently screened at the 2016 Sarlat Film Festival in France and 2016 Torino Film Festival in Italy. The film was released commercially in its country of origin on February 22, 2017 and was part of last year’s Seattle International Film Festival line-up.
This special Philippine screening was made possible by UniFrance Film International and it’s in line with Sinag Maynila’s aim to attract a more global audience. This year’s Sinag Maynila Film Festival is held in cooperation with McDonald‘s and in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and CineLokal in celebration of 100 years of Philippine Cinema.
