“Lakbayan” is Sinag Maynila 2019’s Opening Film

The “journey” comes full circle.

After a fruitful international run, Lakbayan, the collaborative opus by reknowned Filipino auteurs Brillante Mendoza, Lav Diaz, and Kidlat Tahimik, will open this year’s Sinag Maynila Film Festival. The 3-part omnibus will be shown as part of the 2019 Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, April 3, 7:30PM at The Podium and will also screen in select theaters during the festival. The film will also be the subject of the Film Appreciation Seminar to be conducted by Direk Dante on April 6 in SM North EDSA as part of FDCP Talks.

The trilogy made its world premiere at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival last October 2018, where it screened under the “Window on Asian Cinema” section. It is divided into three segments, each representing the Philippines’ main island groups:

Defocado, written by Conan Altatis and directed by Mendoza, stars Joem Bascon, Soliman Cruz, Fe Ging Ging Hyde, Perry Dizon, Japo Parcero and Vince Rillon; Hugaw by Diaz stars Nanding Josef, Bart Guingona and Don Melvin Boongaling; and
Lakaran ni Kabunyan by Tahimik stars his son Kabunyan de Guia.
