Joselito Altarejos‘ Tale of the Lost Boys won the coveted Best Picture trophy at the Sinag Maynila 2018 Gabi ng Parangal ceremonies held last night in Conrad Hotel Manila. The film won three other awards, including the Sinag Maynila Box Office Award (for garnering the highest ticket sales), Best Screenplay for May de los Santos, and a back-to-back Best Editing win for Diego Marx Dobles, who won for Kristo last year.
Also winning four awards is Bomba (The Bomb), including the first ever Best Director award for Ralston G. Jover. The film also won Best Cinematography for Pipo Domagas, Best Actress for its pint-sized female lead Angelline Nichole Sanoy, and a second Sinag Best Actor trophy for Allen Dizon. The actor previously won for Imbisibol in 2015, Sinag Maynila‘s inaugural year.
This year, each of the five full length finalists won at least won award. Richard Somes‘ El Peste won Best Production Design for the first batch of Somes’ Production Design class, as well as the SM People’s Choice Award. Matthew Victor Pastor‘s Melodrama/Random/Melbourne! won Best Musical Score for Fergus Cronkite. While Yam Laranas‘ Abomination won Best Sound for Mikko Quizon.
Completing this year’s roster of winners are Odin B. Fernandez, who won Best Short Film for The Duwende, and a very ecstatic Janine Santos, who won Best Documentary for (Mahal, 2017). Lastly, earning a special Jury Prize for Documentary was Albert Almendralejo and Maricel Cariaga‘s Journeyman Finds Home: The Simone Rota Story, the only feature-length documentary entry this year.
