This year’s Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival commenced with a free screening of Brillante Mendoza‘s award-winning film, Ma’ Rosa, held in SM Megamall Cinema 5.
More than a hundred film students and enthusiasts attended the event and received the masterpiece with thunderous applause. The screening was followed by a 20-minute documentary on the making of Ma’ Rosa.
Direk Brillante continued the proceedings with a brief lecture, where he talked about his storytelling techniques and his craft. After which, he opened the floor for questions from the audience. Topics ranged from his trademark “shaky camera” shots and Jaclyn Jose‘s now-iconic fishball scene.
At the end of the workshop, Direk Brillante thanked SM for their continuous support and hosting his free film appreciation workshop for the sixth year in a row.
