“Alpha, The Right to Kill” Competes in 66th San Sebastian Film Festival

Brillante Mendoza‘s latest film Alpha, the Right to Kill, made its international debut as one of the competing entries in the 66th Annual San Sebastian Film Festival held in the Basque Region of Spain. The hard-hitting social drama, which picks up from Mendoza’s TV series Amo revolves around police corruption in Manila’s drug squad and marks the director’s first time to participate in the long-running Spanish film festival.

In an interview published in Zinemaldia, the festival’s publication, Mendoza expressed that the screenplay was based on “authentic real-life situations“. He added, “to do this, you need to plunge right into the real world that the characters live in, so that the film is both a drama and a documentary.”

In attendance at the Red Carpet held last September 23 were Direk Brillante Mendoza and the film’s lead actor (and two-time Sinag Maynila Best Actor winner) Allen Dizon.
